Prosecutor arrested for accepting money to drop a robbery case

A prosecutor has been arrested in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape. He is alleged to have struck a robbery case off the court roll, after receiving amounts of cash totaling R2 000. After asking for the amounts, our agents arranged payments with the prosecutor. He then dropped the charges against the suspects as he had promised. His arrest is a culmination of an operation by the Hawks, working with Crime Intelligence and the Anti Corruption Unit.

The suspects were arrested in May this year. They were facing the charges in court when the prosecutor allegedly asked for cash to make the charges disappear. The prosecutor is expected to appear in court today.
