Professional Chartered Accountant (CA) appointed as Chief Financial Officer for Office of Premier

The Office of North West Premier, Mme Thandi Modise has appointed a Professional Chartered Accountant (CA) and qualified Chartered Management Accountant as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in an effort to strengthen its financial management capacity. Thapelo Mosome was appointed to head financial administration in the Office of the Premier with effect from 1 March 2012.

In welcoming Mosome to her department, Premier Mme Thandi Modise said that his appointment should signal the commitment of her administration to recruiting suitably qualified and skilled people within its Executive and Senior Management echelons in order to accelerate service delivery to communities.

Modise said that that the newly appointed CFO would have to improve compliance with financial management prescripts and ensure that effective financial systems and controls are in place within her department to prevent and detect irregular and fruitless expenditure.

Prior his appointment to the position, Mosome had served for 3 years at the National Treasury as a director responsible for risk management, internal audit and accounting support at both National and Local Government levels.

Mosome had acquired extensive experience in the financial services sectors having worked for both Standard Bank and Absa Group for a period of 6 years as an Accountant and Internal Auditor.

National Treasury had recruited him from PetroSA where he was a Senior Risk Manager looking after Trading, supply & logistics, Corporate Planning and Strategy and Group Finance Divisions.

The Phela village born Mosome matriculated at Batswana High School in Mahikeng and studied for his Hons. Bcom (Accounting) degree at the University of Western Cape from year 1998 to 2001. He had been a part-time lecturer for Enterprise, Performance and Financial strategies papers for the CIMA (UK) since February 2010 until February 2012.
