In displaying their intent, commitment and sincere resolve to good governance and improved service delivery, the Premier of the Northern Cape, Mrs Hazel Jenkins, together with her governing collective in the form of all MECs, have committed themselves to Operation Clean Audit 2014 which was officially launched by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in July last year.
The political will and commitment demonstrated by the leaders of the provincial government will not only serve to encourage and maintain good governance principles at the provincial level, but at the local level as well.
Indeed the findings of the Auditor-General into the finances of both spheres of government are certainly cause for concern and we are certain that in accordance with the vision and objectives encapsulated in Operation Clean Audit 2014, all the negative aspects of the findings of the Auditor-General will soon be overcome.
In essence, government's main goal regarding this initiative is to ensure that by 2011, no provincial government department or municipality will have a disclaimer or an adverse audit opinion and by 2014, no department or municipality should have a disclaimer, negative audit opinion or a qualified audit.
Despite certain challenges, mainly with regard to hiring of appropriate personnel, we remain politically committed in ushering in good governance on a province wide basis. We believe that this is possible and work has already begun in earnest.
