The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson has called a high profile meeting with the Ministers of Labour and Police, the Western Cape provincial government, representatives from farmer unions and farm workers, in a bid to find a solution to the on-going labour disputes in farms in the Western Cape.
Tomorrow’s meeting follows the on-going negotiations between farm workers and farmers to reach a settlement agreement to end the wage dispute.
In today’s meeting in Worcester, among whose attendees were the Hexvalley Tablegrape Association, labour lawyers and farming consultants, chaired by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), concluded by the employers recommending a new minimum wage of R80.00 per day.
Further negotiations will be concluded between farmers and workers at respective farms.
