President Zuma starts 2010 World Cup build up programme

President Jacob Zuma is to start his official 2010 FIFA World Cup programme tomorrow on 6 June, with an international media conference on the state of readiness and the meaning of the World Cup to South Africa.

President Zuma returned from a successful state visit to India this morning on Saturday, 5 June.

On 7 June, the South African government will host a dinner to welcome the FIFA family and other special guests to the country at Gallagher Estates, Midrand. The President will use this occasion to bestow the Order of the Companions of Oliver Tambo on Mr Blatter.

The President will on 9 June attend the FIFA Congress opening ceremony. He will attend the World Cup opening concert on 10 June at Orlando Stadium in Soweto and the World Cup tournament opening ceremony and kick off match on 11 June.

The President will attend all games in which South Africa plays during the tournament. On the sidelines of the World Cup programme the President will in the afternoon of 6 June kick off youth month by attending the commemoration of the former Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and youth leader Peter Mokaba at Mankweng village in Limpopo.

On Monday morning, 7 June he will join the Eastern Cape government in marking the anniversary of the Pondoland revolt in Flagstaff.

On 8 June, the President will attend the Sport for Peace dinner, hosted by the Sport for Peace Foundation together with the United Nations family in South Africa. The purpose is to promote the United Millennium Development Goal 2, education.

On 9 June, he will mark the closing of schools for an extended World Cup period by visiting children at the Frances Vorwerg School for children with disabilities near Southgate, in Johannesburg.
