The Commander-in-Chief, President Jacob Zuma, has approved an urgent request from the President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete to assist with the rescue operation following the ferry accident in Zanzibar early today, 10 September 2011.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) specialist teams from the South African Navy (SA Navy) are already on the way to Zanzibar. Other salvage and additional technical teams will depart as soon as possible.
President Zuma has ordered that SANDF through SA Navy must do everything possible to assist the people of Tanzania.
