President Jacob Zuma wishes to convey his deepest condolences to the Kumalo family and friends on the sad passing of renowned photographer, a great South African and recipient of the National Order of the Ikhamanga, Mr Alfred Kumalo, who sadly passed on at the weekend.

Once imprisoned for his craft, Mr Kumalo’s outstanding photography traces the history of South Africa in all its glory, trials and tribulations and has earned him several awards of recognition including the prestigious Nat Nakasa Award.

“We have lost an outstanding individual and a great South African. He was a meticulous photographer and his work will live on forever as a monument to the people’s resilience and fortitude in the face of colonial oppression and apartheid,” said President Zuma.

“On behalf of government and the whole nation, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the Kumalo family and friends. May his soul rest in peace,” said the President.
