On the third day of his working visit to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, President Jacob Zuma today, 6 May 2010, held a number of bilaterals on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on Africa.
These included a meeting with World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General Pascal Lamy. The meeting discussed how to strengthen the multilateral trade system, both in regard to the finalisation of the Doha Development Round of negotiations, and the challenges of regional integration in Africa.
President Zuma also met with Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga to discuss issues of mutual interest and strengthening of political and trade relations between Kenya and South Africa.
President Zuma will attend a cultural soirée hosted by Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete with several African heads of state and government who are attending the WEF meeting.
On Friday morning, President Zuma will participate in a panel discussion on “The Future of Africa’s Democracies” and address the closing plenary session on “The Redesign of Africa’s Role in a New Global Economy”.
President Zuma will return to South Africa on Friday, 7 May 2010.
