President Zuma attends SADC Summit in Maputo

President Jacob Zuma has today, 15 June 2013, arrived in Maputo in the Republic of Mozambique to attend a Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extra-Ordinary Summit.

The African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government held their Summit in May 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and considered progress in the implementation of decisions made during the Organ Troika Summit held in Cape Town on 10 May 2013, in relation to the security and political situation in the region. The meeting agreed to hold an urgent Special Summit on Zimbabwe before the elections and urged the Zimbabwe authorities to submit their financial requirements for the elections during the proposed Summit.

The Extra-Ordinary Summit in Maputo will be appraised of progress with regard to the facilitation process in the Republic of Zimbabwe. In particular, consideration will be given to a roadmap to elections following the successful referendum held in February. It is also expected that the SADC Summit would reflect on the latest developments in Madagascar.
