His Excellency President Jacob Zuma has today, 28 January 2011, arrived at the 16th Ordinary Summit of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
President Zuma leads a South African delegation that includes International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Public Service and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi, who is the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National Focal Point in South Africa and Minister Trevor Manuel, the Minister in the Presidency responsible for the New Partnership for Africa's Development (Nepad) Regional Infrastructure initiative as well as State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele.
The African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government have been preceded by the 18th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, from 27 to 28 January to which Minister Nkoana-Mashabane led the South African delegation. The AU Executive Council of Ministers dealt with various issues ranging from the Sudan referendum to the aftermath of the elections in Ivory Coast, which forms part of the AU Heads of State Summit agenda.
President Zuma will hold several bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary General and other Heads of States during and on the sidelines of the AU Summit.
The President returns to South Africa on 1 February 2011.
