President Zuma appoints commissioners to the Commission for Gender Equality

President Jacob Zuma has in terms of section 193(4)(b) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, read with section 3 of the Commission on Gender Equality Act, 1996 (Act No.39 of 1996) appointed the following nine commissioners to the Commission for Gender Equality.

1. Mr Mfanozelwe Shozi as a full- time member and Chairperson with effect from 1 June 2012 to 30 January 2017

2. Ms Thoko Mpumlwana as a full- time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31 May 2017

3. Ms Janine Hicks as a full- time member with effect from 7 June 2012 to 06 May 2016

4. Ms Sylvia Desiree Stevens-Maziya as a full- time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31 May 2014

5. Mr Wallace Amos Mgoqi as a full-time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31May 2014

6. Ms Ndileka Eumera Portia Loyilane as a full-time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31 May 2014

7. Ms Nondumiso Maphazi Ranuga as a full-time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31 May 2014

8. Ms Lulama Nare as a part-time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31 May 2014 and

9. Prof Amanda Gouws as a part-time member with effect from 1 June 2012 to 31 May 2014.

President Zuma received recommendations for the appointment of the nine commissioners from the National Assembly in line with section 193 (4) of the Constitution.

"We wish all nine commissioners well as they execute their new duties. As government we look forward to working with them in promoting gender equality and the protection, development and attainment of gender equality,” said President Zuma
