President Jacob Zuma has welcomed the findings of the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, relating to the Minister of Police Mr Nathi Mthethwa and the Premier of Gauteng, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane.
Allegations of exorbitant expenditure at hotels in Durban and Cape Town had been made against Minister Mthethwa. The Public Protector found that the Minister did not act in breach of any of the provisions of the Executive Ethics Code.
The President also received a report in respect of Premier Nomvula Mokonyane of Gauteng, on allegations of her office's alleged involvement in the awarding without tender, of a project to beautify the Albertina Sisulu highway between OR Tambo international airport and Johannesburg. The Public Protector found that the Premier did not breach the provisions of the Executive Ethics Code and was not guilty of unethical behaviour.
The President has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Max Sisulu briefing him on the reports and informing him that no action will be taken against Minister Mthethwa and Premier Mokonyane as they are not guilty of any wrongdoing.
President Zuma has in addition reminded Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Premiers to abide by the Executive Ethics Code and the Ministerial Handbook at all times.
