President Jacob Zuma sends condolences on passing of soccer star John “Shoes” Moshoeu

President Jacob Zuma has learned with sadness of the passing of legendary football player and former Bafana Bafana star, Mr John “Shoes” Moshoeu who passed away yesterday, 21 April 2015.

“We have lost an outstanding footballer, a good role model for our youth and a committed and patriotic South African. We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends as well as the entire football fraternity. May his soul rest in peace,” said President Zuma. 

Mr Moshoeu will be remembered, amongst others, for his incredible role in 1996 when South Africa remarkably won the Africa Cup of Nations where he played a vital role in the midfield and earned himself great respect in the international football community, attracting many overseas offers.
