President Jacob Zuma has in terms of section 13 (3) of the Broadcasting Act, 1999 (Act No. 4 of 1999) designated Ms Ellen Zandile Tshabalala as Chairperson and Professor Mbulaheni Obert Maguvhe as Deputy Chairperson of the Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
“We congratulate Ms Tshabalala, Professor Maguvhe and all other members of the SABC board on their new positions and we wish them well in their new responsibilities,” President Zuma said.
Ms Tshabalala served as chairperson of the interim board. She holds a BComm Degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Relations and an International Bankers Licentiate Diploma.
She has a widespread experience and exposure in Business Development (including SMME Development), International Relations, Banking and Marketing. She has held senior positions in various corporate companies including Standard Bank, Transnet and South African Post Office.
She also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Moral Regeneration Movement, African Academy for CADD Training, member of the Board of trustees for the Self Help Association of Paraplegics and a member of the Board of Directors for Port Shepstone Harbour Development Company.
Professor Maguvhe is an Associate Professor at the University of South Africa's Department of Inclusive Education. He holds a PhD and Master's Degree on Education Studies for the visually impaired.
He is a co-founder of the South African National Association of the blind and partially sighted and has worked extensively at the South African National Council for the Blind. He started his career as a teacher in at Tshilidzini Special School, Shayandima, Limpopo.
Professor Maguvhe has served in boards of various institutions including the national Department of Education where he advocated better education for the visually impaired and served on ministerial advisory committee on literacy between 2007-2007.
