President Jacob Zuma has extended his hearty congratulations to Ms Francine Muyumba, the newly elected President of the Pan-African Youth Union, and National Women's Soccer team Banyana Banyana striker Ms Portia Modise who was crowned the 2014 South Africa's Sports Star of the Year Award at the SA Sports Awards over the weekend.
Ms Muyumba, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was voted in as President at the weekend following a two-day Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) Congress, held in Boksburg, Johannesburg. She replaced Mr Yershen Pillay, the chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency who led the PYU proficiently since his assumption of office.
Ms Modise is the first African player to reach the elusive 100-goal mark in international football. She was crowned the 2014 South Africa's Sports Star of the Year at the SA Sports Awards, on Sunday 30 November 2014.
"We congratulate these inspirational young African women on their sterling achievements and hope that they will serve as beacons for all other young African women to follow in their footsteps and achieve their goals and dreams,” said President Zuma.
