President Jacob Zuma today, 21 April 2010 arrived in Windhoek, capital city of the Republic of Namibia, ahead of a two day working visit, 21 to 22 April 2010.
President Jacob Zuma is joining Heads of State from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland to attend the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) conference and the centenary celebrations taking place in Windhoek, Namibia between 21 and 22 April 2010.
SACU is one of the oldest Customs Unions in the world, established in 1910 as a Customs Union Agreement between South Africa and the High Commission Territories of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. Namibia joined SACU in 1990 after its independence.
The Union meets annually with the aim to maintain the free interchange of goods between member countries.
President Jacob Zuma, together with other heads of state from member countries, will tonight attend a gala dinner, hosted by the President of the Republic of Namibia Mr H Pohamba.
On Thursday morning, 22 April 2010, President Zuma will attend the Strategic Closed Session of the SACU conference. The Heads of State will also unveil the plaque for the new SACU Headquarters to be built in Windhoek.
President Zuma will be accompanied by the Minister of Trade and Industry Mr Davies and the Deputy Minister of Finance Mr Nene.
President Jacob Zuma is expected to return to South Africa at the end of the conference, 22 April 2010.
