President Cyril Ramaphosa sends condolence message to Cuba following plane crash

President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent a message of condolences to the President of the Republic of Cuba, His Excellency Miguel Díaz-Canel, following a plane crash that occurred in Havana on 18 May 2018, resulting in the deaths of over 100 people, including passengers and crew.

It has been reported that the plane, flying domestically, burst into flames shortly after take-off from the Cuban capital.

President Ramaphosa said the thoughts of the South African people were with the sisterly people of Cuba, particularly the families that have lost their loved ones.

The South African Embassy in Havana is in contact with local authorities and stands ready to provide assistance should there be any South African citizens affected, either directly or indirectly, by the disaster.
