Presidency on Mr Kalawe's statement regarding Minister Gigaba's term as Minister of Public Enterprise

Minister Gigaba served his full term

It has come to the attention of the Presidency that Mr Monwabisi Kalawe of the South African Airways may have wrongfully stated in an affidavit or statement in his defence in disciplinary proceedings instituted by his employers that the former Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Malusi Gigaba, was removed from his position as Minister of Public Enterprises last year.

This is a gross fabrication. Minister Gigaba served his full term as Minister of Public Enterprises. At no point was he removed from that position. He served as Public Enterprises Minister until 24 May 2014 when President Jacob Zuma was inaugurated, which marked the end of the fourth administration. The Minister thus completed his term of office.

The new Cabinet was sworn in on 26 May 2015, and Minister Gigaba was appointed as Minister of Home Affairs by the President.
