The Presidency yesterday, 23 April 2015, announced that President Jacob Zuma had appointed Mr Glen Mashinini as a member of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) with effect from 1 May 2015.
The majority of media houses have reported that Mr Mashinini has been appointed as the "head, chief or chairperson" of the IEC, which was not contained in the statement and is incorrect.
President Zuma has not yet appointed a Chairperson for the IEC. Mr Mashinini will join the body as an ordinary Commissioner or member on 1 May 2015.
