Presidency grants permission for ANC Youth League March

The Presidency has granted permission to the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League to march on the Union Buildings and hand over the memorandum to the Presidency on Friday, 28 October 2011.

The ANC Youth League submitted a request to the Presidency to march and hold a night vigil on Thursday the 27 October at the Union Buildings. The Youth League also requested to hand over the memorandum to the Presidency on Friday, 28 October 2011.

The request for the night vigil to be held at the Union Buildings was declined due to security considerations. The Union Buildings is classified a National Key Point in terms of the Nation Key Points Act, No. 102 of 1980. In terms of the Act there cannot be a gathering allowed within 100 meters of the National Key Point.

The Presidency has however, granted permission for the Youth League to march on Friday in terms of the Gatherings Act, No. 205 of 1993. The permission was granted provided the ANC Youth League takes full responsibility for all eventualities, positive and negative, associated with the march.

The Presidency will be available to accept the memorandum from the leaders of the march on Friday, 28 October 2011.
