Presidency celebrates a clean audit opinion

The Presidency today received an award for a clean audit opinion for the 2014/2015 financial year from the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) at a ceremony to recognize government departments for good governance.

The AG obtained evidence that the Presidency has complied with applicable legislation in relation to financial management while the performance information in the annual performance report of the office for the year ended 31 March 2015 was found to be reliable and useful.

President Jacob Zuma has congratulated the Director-General, Dr Cassius Lubisi, the Chief Operations Officer and accounting officer, Ms Lakela Kaunda as well as the management and staff in the Presidency for the hard work that has enabled the Presidency to reach this milestone.

Ms Kaunda, who received the award on behalf of the Presidency, expressed her gratitude to the senior management and staff who worked very hard to correct and strengthen the administrative and management systems.

"Hard work and commitment by all ensured that we meet the performance targets we had set for ourselves. The implementation of a focused corrective plan to eradicate non-compliance and remove internal control deficiencies which had been identified in the previous year's audits has paid off. We set out specifically to review our core management systems, and paid special attention to improving supply chain management systems and financial management and also improved our information technology and human resource development systems among other interventions. This intensive renewal has resulted in the positive audit outcome for the Presidency for the first time. We are very excited about this achievement,” said Ms Kaunda.

The Presidency will table its Annual Report to the National Assembly on 30 September 2015.
