Premier Thandi Modise expresses shock and condemns Klerksdorp double-murder

North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise has expressed shock and sadness that a 96 year-old woman and her 55 year gardener were allegedly found murdered at Wilkopies residential area in Klerskdorp at around 12h30 on Saturday.

“We wish to condemn in the strongest terms possible these gruesome murders and convey our condolences to the families that lost their loved ones. We call on police should not leave any stone unturned in their investigations to make sure that those responsible for the heartless murders are behind bars. We appeal to members of the public to assist police in their investigation. There is no place in our society for heartless criminals who target the aged and vulnerable in the safety of their homes,” says Premier Modise

According to police who confirmed that no one has thus far been arrested, the deceased sister become suspicious when she did not answer or return her calls. The sister phoned deceased’s friend to go and check at her house. When the friend got to the victim’s home, she found Elizabeth Louw lying on the floor in the dining room She also discovered Gert Marks’s corpse on the floor dead in the backroom. It is alleged that both victims were suffocated and strangled.

It is alleged that Louw was tied with shoe laces on her feet and hands before she was killed by the perpetrators who fled the scene with the deceased’s jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money.
