North West Premier Thandi Modise dismisses allegations of non-benefit from land restitution programme as fallacy and cheap politicking

North West Premier Thandi Modise has dismissed as fallacy and cheap politicking the criticism attributed to Democratic Alliance Leader Helen Zille and Keorapetse Prince Motlhako of Bodibe village near Itsoseng that asserts that the Barolong Boo Modiboa Ba Matlwang have not benefitted from government’s land restitution programme.

Premier Modise said that government has spent over R110 million on restitution of 16883.3808 hectares of land to the Barolong Boo Modiboa Ba Matlwang Community Property Association for farms Droogespruit 416 IP, Eleazer 377 IP, Nooitverdwacht 385 IP, Town and Townlands of Potchefstroom, Hessie 386 IP, Modderfontein 383 IP and Arrendar 545 IP.

Modise said that though 584.4244 of hectares still remains to be restored to the community, R26,239,722.40 grants were advanced towards recapitalisation of the farms restored for them to be sustainable and profitable business enterprises.

Claimants received R6 250 000.00 for loss of joy for the land incorporated in the National Highveld Park with each household receiving an amount of R10, 000.

“Two hundred cattle were bought for the beneficiaries in 2008 that entered into a joint venture with Chubby Chicks which is doing well. Compensation of R2, 027,510.00 was also transferred into the CPA account in 2011,” Premier Modise said.

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform has confirmed that it still has a balance of R1, 290,000.00 to spend on the community. The transfer was delayed due to allegations of mismanagement and maladministration which were investigated before the CPA was placed under administration.
