Premier Thandi Modise condemns torching of mine worker's shack

North West Premier Thandi Modise has condemned in the strongest terms possible the torching of a shack and assault of a mineworker and his girlfriend in Thekwana outside Rustenburg for allegedly not supporting the Association of Mine workers and Construction Union (AMCU) strike.

Premier Modise has called on police not to leave any stone unturned to bring those responsible to book and on members of the community to assist unmask those behind the spate of violence and intimidation.

"Such atrocious and barbaric acts underline the need to end the protracted strike," Modise said.

According to police, the incident involving the mineworker affiliated to the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) occurred between midnight and 1h00 this morning.

The miner employed at Siphumelele 1 Shaft was allegedly assaulted for going to work.
