The modest shack in which 3-month-old Segwele twin boys discharged from Mahikeng Provincial Hospital Paediatric Ward underwent a makeover within 24 hours of their arrival from hospital, thanks to the compassion and efforts of North West Premier, MmeThandi Modise.
A brand new double bed for the twins Thabo and Thabang to sleep on was delivered by members of the Thandi Ruth Modise Humanitarian Trust Fund on Friday. The delivery included a carpet to cover the dusty ground that was the floor of the corrugated shack in which the twins are staying with their parents in the impoverished Lonely Park village outside Mahikeng.
“I was touched by the Premier’s gesture on Tuesday when she donated toys to all the children who were in the children’s ward she has adopted but did not expect that my children and I would receive such attention and support from government.” said an overjoyed Rosinah Segwele.
The 28-year-old mother to the twins said that it’s an experience and encounter with a prominent leader that which we will never ever forget
The gifts received by the family included clothing, bedding, baby powdered milk, feeding and sterilising equipment and Christmas grocery for the family.
“Christmas has meaning when we share with those who are less fortunate and celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most” says Premier Modise who will be celebrating her birthday on Christmas day.
The Office of the Premier is coordinating interventions together with the Department of Social Development, Women, Children and People with disability to ensure that the twins’ mother applies for an identity document so that she could be in a position to apply for the children’s birth certificates and child support grants.
The Ntileka family in Setlopo village whose house burnt down was also provided with groceries and blankets while their application for social relief for distress grant is being processed.
