Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo has welcomed the peaceful outcome of discussions between provincial government and the Ledig Community which has returned calmness and normalcy to the community following days of unrest.
“On behalf of the People and Government of Bokone Bophirima, we thank the community and leadership of Ledig for agreeing to work with Government to seek formal and legal means to find answers to questions raised by the community about mining operations in the area and their benefits," said Mahumapelo.
Premier Mahumapelo further expressed his disappointment and outrage regarding isolated incidents of criminality in the Province targeted primarily at foreign nationals.
“We call on our communities to find reason in our deep reserves of tolerance and understanding to work together with Government to resolve any grievances which might have ignited this shameful treatment of our brothers and sisters particularly from Africa," Mahumapelo appealed.
The provincial government will very soon publish for consultation regarding new regulations governing small business in line with our new policy on Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies (VTSD).
These regulations will amongst others ensure that opportunities in the small business sector are not abused by anyone whether South African or foreigner, to sell drugs and stolen goods
