North West Provincial government's reaction to the Marikana Report
Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo has welcomed and congratulated President Jacob Zuma for a decision to release the Marikana report on Thursday 25 June 2015 ahead of the date endorsed by the North Gauteng High Court.
The decision by the President bears testament to the seriousness with which the President has handled this matter since 2012 and his compassion to the families of the deceased.
The Premier has taken note and welcomed the findings of the Commission which have cleared all members of the executive including Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa of any wrong doing in relation to the shooting of August 2012.
These findings should be welcomed and embraced by all to lay a firm foundation for true reconciliation, healing and renewal. In this regard, the Bokone Bophirima provincial government calls on the entire South African society to draw significant lessons in the construction of building blocks for the reconciliation, healing and renewal which can assist us to move forward.
The North West Provincial Government also welcomes the decision by the President to accept and implement recommendations of the Commission in line with serious findings made by the Commission led by retired judge Ian Farlam.
