Premier Supra Mahumapelo has expressed his sadness and extended heartfelt condolences on the passing of the ever hard working Speaker of Mahikeng Local Municipality Councillor Pontsho Macdonald Tabane, who passed away this week after a short illness.
“We have learned with shock the passing of one of the selfless councillors of our local municipalities Pontsho Tabane. His passing is an enormous loss not only to his family but to the Mahikeng municipality at large as he was committed to changing the lives ordinary citizens of his municipality. Death has robbed us of a servant of the people who made tremendous contribution to Rebranding, Repositioning and Renewal of the province through the local government sphere and was always ready to ensure opportunities that are aimed decreasing youth unemployed and fighting poverty. He will be greatly missed” remarked Premier Mahumapelo.
Cllr Pontsho Macdonald Tabane joined Mahikeng Local Municipality as a Councillor in 2004. He was overwhelmingly elected as a Ward Councillor of Ward 20 in 2006, 2011 and 2016 respectively. At Council he was deployed at various positions of responsibility which include:
- MMC for Communications and Public Relations
- MMC for Corporate Support Services
- Council Speaker from 17 August 2016 until his untimely death
