Reviewed departmental annual performance plans to yield hundred jobs
Hundreds of unemployed youth in Bokone Bophirima province are set to enter the job market in the near future. This follows the amendments made to the Annual Performance Plans of all provincial government departments in an effort to speedily create employment opportunities and decrease youth unemployment in the province.
The Executive Council - EXCO sitting which was held recently at Cyferskuil Village in the Moretele Local Municipality received presentation from Head of Provincial Departments on how their department will speed up the employment of the youth.
Premier Supra Mahumapelo who was impressed by the submissions said the provincial government will now change the game by abandoning some of the programmes and focus on addressing the escalating poverty, unemployment and inequality.
“We are using the same money at our disposal differently, doing more with what we have to achieve radical socio economic transformation. We need to assist our people who are living in high levels of poverty as soon as possible” remarked Premier Mahumapelo.
According to the recent stats unemployment in the province is sitting at 28% something which prompted Bokone Bophirima Premier Supra Mahumapelo to come up with a strategy to turn things around.
Over 10 000 young people are to be employed into different sectors through Expanded Public Works Programme and other important government programmes.
“Young people will be trained to become housing contractors, traffic officers and mechanics in government garages. They’ll also be trained to fix potholes and street lights, do general road maintenance and gravel roads upgrades. Our focus in the remaining months and the next financial year will be to create employment opportunities for unemployment youth” said Premier Mahumapelo.
More jobs will also be created through VTSD industrialisation and support to potential VTSD businesses to contribute towards decent employment.
The province also remains committed to using vacant schools to bring services and opportunities nearer to our people in VTSD areas.
“A list of vacant schools in the province has been handed to Department of Public Works and & Roads as recommended by EXCO. The department will determine how each facility will be used. As recommended some will be used for VTSD Kgora Agriculture Institute Extension, Setsokotsane Operation Centres or VTSD Government Offices” said Premier Mahumapelo.
Premier Mahumapelo believes Setsokotsane programme is not at a level where it should be. “We need to heighten the implementation of Setsokotsane 10x10 Programme. Setsokotsane remains a very much important programme as it is the summary of the National Development Programme. Mayors and Municipal speakers must fully support the programme and even if it means we must budget to ensure its implementation” concluded Premier Mahumapelo.
