Premier Mahumapelo pays tribute to Mr Molema – a great Setswana historian

As messages of condolences continue to pour in for Mr Rasempi Molema who was responsible for the Barolong Boo Ratshidi Tribal Council’s Public Relations, Premier of Bokone Bophirima Province Mr Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo says Molema’s immense work in protecting and preserving the Setswana culture will live on.

Regarded as a great historian of Setswana and Barolong Chieftaincy, Molema who passed on over the weekend played a critical role as a court witness during the Barolong Chieftaincy dispute, having worked with past dikgosi and regents until Kgosi Jeff Montshioa was installed in 2000/1.

Mr Molema led the campaign for name change to return Mahikeng to its original name, and played a crucial role during the erection of memorial stone for late Dick Montshioa, the former record Secretary of the ANC.

Molema lived at the historical Maratiwa House which is situated at Montshiwa Stadt where he will also be buried on Sunday 21 June 2015. His relative, Sol Plaatjie, lived there during the siege of Mahikeng.

In passing the Provincial Government’s condolences to the Molema family, Plaatjie family, Kgosi Jeff Montshioa and the entire Barolong tribe in Mahikeng, Botswana, Northern Cape and other parts of the country, Premier Mahumapelo said while mourning the passing of Mr Molema, Batswana and in particular Barolong should also celebrate his life and recommit to advance the elementary Batswana principles Molema embraced and embodied.
