Bokone Bophirima residents encouraged to stay true to the ideals Tata Madiba lived for

As the world will be commemorating Mandela Day on Saturday, 18 July, Premier of Bokone Bophirima Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo encourages communities to join the global movement and help change the world for the better this Mandela Day.

This annual international day of humanitarian action in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy, creates an opportunity for all people, irrespective of their economic, social or political to work together to confront social ills within their communities and to build a better world.

Premier Mahumapelo says as various Provincial Government institutions and individuals will be responding to a call to action by devoting 67 minutes of their time to community service, they should do so mindful of the triple challenges the society is facing, and consider ways of sustaining the programmes initiated in the context of making every day our Mandela Day.

“Tata Nelson Mandela held education close to his heart. As the Provincial Government, we will on Friday, 17 July, a day before International Mandela Day, be making a renewed commitment to carry forward the vision Tata had for education by launching the Kgetsi-Ya-Tsie Education and Skills Development Fund. As we are beginning the journey of changing our young people’s lives for the better, we call on all sectors of the society to join hands and play their part in making a difference in other people’s lives”, Premier Mahumapelo said.

Some of the activities the provincial departments and municipalities will embark on as part of their contribution towards 67 minutes for Mandela include amongst others, painting and cleaning of schools environment in Greater Taung and Ratlou Local Municipalities, sod turning for construction of houses for three destitute families in Greater Taung, handing-over of school shoes to learners at Khudutlou Primary School in Taung and donation of groceries to the elderly in Lokaleng, Taung.
