Premier Supra Mahumapelo on Gopane village traditional leadership

Premier SOR Mahumapelo visited Gopane village and took time to explain Setsokotsane to community members and the traditional leadership led by Kgosi Gopane.

Setsokotsane is an approach adopted by the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government to fast track service delivery in an integrated manner. The approach promotes government accountability to the people through outreach activities that are rolled out every week.

In explaining some of the recent achievements of Setsokotsane, Mahumapelo said that Transnet supported ten women from Atamelang with the construction of a bakery.

“Even in Ramotshere Moilwa there is a need for bakeries as people can bake.” Said Mahumapelo. Community members identified a buiding in Borakalalo village which used to be a bakery and has since collapsed, they requested the assistance of Setsokotsane to revive it.

Mahumapelo revealed that part of the Provincial Government’s plan is for every village to have a bakery and assured the community that a process would be undertaken to revive the bakery in collaboration with the community members who have the necessary entrepreneurial zeal.

Mahumapelo also visited Mokutong Primary School in Gopane and the school principal’s request was for the construction of a proper ablution block as the current one left much to be desired.

A good Samaritan in the form of a businessman offered to partner with government and undertook to construct a decent ablution block for the elated learners and teachers.

Mahumapelo made time for the excited learners and left them mesmerised after urging them not to allow their current circumstances to define their destiny.

Gopane clinic was the next stop were the clinic manager Ms Mogorosi asked for intervention on staffing challenges as her clinic only has three professional nurses and three assistant nurses and had to manage twelve thousand patients.

“The  Head of Department for Health will visit Gopane clinic during the stay of Setsokotsane in Gopane and will assist to resolve the staffing challenges.” Mahumapelo assured Mogorosi.

In his interaction with Kgosi Gopane and community members at Gopane, Mahumapelo learnt of a bird sanctuary that was constructed in 2010 and has since been vandalised.

The bird sanctuary was constructed next to Ngotoana Dam and eight chalets that were built have also been vandalised.

“Had the community been involved in this project through a cooperative it would not have been vandalised as they would be an integral part of  it.” Said the surprised Mahumapelo.

The other issues which the community raised include the construction of a paving road and water shortage.

Setsokotsane will be in Ramotshere Moilwa Local Municipality for two weeks and government departments will render the much needed services to communities in this municipality. This includes resolving challenges identified by the community.
