North West Provincial Government has appointed a 5-member panel to deal with legal cases against the Provincial government.
The announcement was made at a press conference attended by about thirty journalists at Garona Government Complex in Mmabatho this morning.
Mahumapelo said the panel’s main responsibility will be to evaluate each legal case and costs related to it, before devising the intervention plan to address the identified loss or potential loss.
“We have taken a decision to confront the litigation bill because it is eating into the resources which could be used for service delivery. We have realized that sometimes there is connivance between some of the legal people within the public service and some of the service providers.
“We have also mandated this panel to help us in the implementation of the recommendations of the forensic investigations as a way of demonstrating our commitment to deal with corruption. The panel will also be dealing with forensic investigation itself,” Mahumapelo stated.
The panel is chaired by Advocate Tembeka Ncgukaitobi. Other members of the panel are Mr Oupa Shuping, Dr Shima Joseph Sedumedi, Mr Pietman De Villiers, and Advocate Boitumelo Mampo.
Premier Mahumapelo said the panel will be working with all relevant chapter nine institutions including the Office of the Public Protector and that of the Auditor General.
It will also be working with the Office of the Auditor-General, Public Protector, the Hawks, the police and intelligence to deal with any allegations of corruption,” Mahumapelo affirmed.
