Premier Mathabatha presents a strategic and forward-looking budget for the office of the Premier

Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha today presented a comprehensive budget vote at the Limpopo Legislature, outlining the strategic direction and achievements of the Office of the Premier for the upcoming financial year. With a budget allocation of R506,2 million, the Premier emphasised the critical role of his office in coordinating provincial functions and driving development across Limpopo.

Despite the budget's modest size, the Premier highlighted its significant impact on the province's governance and development.

"The Office of the Premier is the cog upon which the wheel of provincial administration turns, ensuring leadership, coordination, and support across all sectors," said Premier Mathabatha.

The Premier announced a 10% budget increase for the 2024/25 financial year, amounting to R506,2 million, with R84 million earmarked for provincial priorities. This increase reflects the administration's commitment to enhancing public service provision and accountability.

Significant strides have been made in employment equity, with women holding 48% of senior management positions and people living with disabilities exceeding the 2% target. The Premier also highlighted the office's efforts in stabilising labour relations and improving recruitment processes through the development of an electronic recruitment system.

In preparation for the 7th Administration, the Premier stressed the importance of filling critical vacancies in departments such as Health, Agriculture, Education, and Public Works. Efforts are underway to ensure a smooth transition and the prioritisation of these posts.

The Premier also underscored the province's commitment to skills development, with over R1.2 billion invested by SETAs between 2021 and 2023, benefiting over 26,400 young individuals. Looking ahead, an additional R136 million is anticipated for the 2024/2025 financial year to further empower unemployed youth.

Furthermore, the establishment of the Limpopo Skills Development Forum and the Limpopo Human Resources Development Council, chaired by the Premier, will ensure effective coordination and implementation of skills development initiatives.

The Premier also highlighted the province's efforts in combating corruption and maladministration, with the implementation of the national anti-corruption strategy and the establishment of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Forum.

In closing, Premier Mathabatha reaffirmed the Office of the Premier's dedication to improving the quality of life for all Limpopo residents, emphasising the ongoing journey towards a more efficient, accountable, and service-oriented public administration.
