A professional soccer player was arrested after clocking 195 km/h on a speed camera on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway outside Brits in the North West Province on Saturday morning.
The 26 year old player who plays for Rustenburg based Platinum Stars was arrested at around 8:00am near the Brits off-ramp while driving his BMW from Rustenburg towards Pretoria. He was locked up at the Brits Police Station and later released on R1500 bail negotiated by his lawyer.
The player is expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates Court on Monday to answer to charges of exceeding the permissible speed limit on a 120km/h.
80 speedsters were earlier in the week arrested on the N4 by Bojanala Platinum by women traffic officers from the Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit during their zero tolerance traffic law enforcement operations.
Women law enforcers across the North West have thus far caught 150 speed offenders since they embarked on special operations to commemorate women’s month.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono is confident that sustaining the onslaught against lawlessness on public roads across the province in support of the National Rolling Enforcement Plan will contribute significantly towards reducing accidents and fatalities caused by irresponsible driver behavior across the province.
