Premier Phumulo Masualle applauded the citizens of Eastern Cape for heeding calls against attacks on foreign nationals

Premier Phumulo Masualle applauded the citizens of the Eastern Cape for heeding  calls against recent  Xenophobic attacks which raged some parts of the country.

The Premier made this statement when he was addressing the 21st National Freedom Day Celebrations in Maclear at the Joe Gqabi District Municipality.

“Looking at the road we’ve travelled, you will agree with me that we have every reason to celebrate the 21 years of freedom,” said the Premier. The province of the Eastern Cape stood together to uphold peaceful coexistence with Fellow Africans and Global Citizens at large.

The highlight of this year’s celebrations were the achievements that government and the country have attained over the period of 21 years since the dawn of a Democratic dispensation.

The event was preceded by three categories of races that took place between Ugie and Maclear. The first was a 2 km fun run, followed by the 5 km and then came the 21 km race that started in Ugie.
 

Symbolic of the 21 years of Freedom, 21 learners from schools around the area hoisted 21 national flags. Furthermore, and in the spirit of harnessing physical wellness, development sporting kits were handed over to 21 local schools.

To leave a lasting legacy in the area, Premier Masualle went on to hand over R400 000.00 to Community Development Projects in Sinxaxo and Sqingqini within the Joe Gqabi District Municipality.
