Premier Phumulo Masualle has announced Mrs Marion Mbina Mthembu as the new Director-General of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government. Mrs Mbina Mthembu, who is currently the Head of Department for Provincial Treasury will assume her duties at the Office of the Premier on Monday, 18 May 2015.
Addressing the Office of the Premier Staff at Skenjana Roji Hall in Bhisho, Premier Masualle indicated that he had committed to update the department when a suitable candidate was found to fill in the vacant position. He further expresses his desire that “We all work together with Mrs Mbina Mthembu in a cooperative environment to fulfil our purpose of ensuring that we bring services closer to our people and ensure stability with the administration.”
She was appointed as the Deputy Director-General in National Treasury responsible for Corporate Services. Over and above this, she oversaw the Pensions family - reporting to the Minister of Finance. She currently serves in the Board of the Government Employees Pension Fund, as well as in the Investment Committee of the same Board - as an employer representative.
Before joining the Office of the Premier, she has been the HOD for Provincial Planning and Treasury, wherein she has provided strategic leadership and direction for the successful implementation of the legislative mandate of Provincial Treasury.
