Gauteng Premier welcomes arrest of pastor allegedly linked to murder of four-month-old baby

The Gauteng Provincial Government welcomes the arrest of a pastor who is allegedly linked to the murder of a four-month-old baby, describing this development as an important step towards ensuring that justice is served. The death of an innocent child under such tragic circumstances is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. No child deserves to have their life cut short, and no family should have to endure the unimaginable pain of losing a baby in such a manner.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased child during this profoundly difficult time. The family remains in our thoughts as they grapple with a loss that no words can adequately describe.

“The arrest is an important step in ensuring that this tragic matter is brought before the courts and that those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law. We trust that the criminal justice system will be allowed to take its course and that the family will ultimately find some measure of justice,” said the Premier. Lesufi emphasized that the title or position a person holds in society must never place them above the law. Religious leadership carries a profound responsibility to protect, guide and serve communities, particularly the most vulnerable.

The Gauteng Provincial Government calls on law enforcement agencies to ensure that the investigation is conducted diligently and that all relevant evidence is presented before the courts. We further urge members of the public to allow the legal process to unfold without speculation or the circulation of unverified information.

The Premier reiterates that the protection of children must remain a collective priority. Government, families, communities, religious institutions and civil society must work together to ensure that every child grows up in an environment where their safety, dignity and fundamental rights are respected and protected.
