Premier Nomvula Mokonyane wishes Bafana Bafana well ahead of quarter finals

On behalf of the Gauteng Executive Council and people of Gauteng, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane wished the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, the best of luck ahead of their face-off with Mali in Orange Africa Cup of Nations quarter finals on Saturday.

“On behalf of the people of our province, I extend every best wish to the head coach Gordon Igesund, captain Bongani Khumalo and all the players a successful game tomorrow.

“May the team emulate the class of 1996 that beat Tunisia in the final,” said Mokonyane.

The Premier further called on all South Africans to show support for Bafana Bafana and the team as whole.

“As a nation we did it during their game with Morocco. Let us now do it again tomorrow.  We encourage supporters to wear their national team jerseys in support of the boys,” she said.

In addition, Mokonyane congratulated Igesund and the team for making it this far in the tournament.

“We are very hopeful that the team will go through to semi-finals and eventually raise the South African flag higher by lifting the African masterpiece trophy.  Their fighting spirit is amazing,” said the Premier.
