Mokonyane horrified at the killing of two Soweto teenage girls
Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has condemned the senseless murder of two teenage girls who were found dead in Dobsonville, Soweto on Wednesday morning. "We urge anyone who can assist to bring to book those who committed this terrible act to call the police," said Mokonyane.
Premier Mokonyane further expressed the provincial government's condolences to the families of the young girls, saying the government was deeply concerned about the levels of violence against women and children.
"I am appealing to communities to protect girl children and women. We are also calling on the police to ensure that those responsible for the murder of these innocent girls faces the full might of the law.
"We cannot allow the abuse against women and children to rear its ugly head again in our society," she said.
The girls were dressed in their school uniforms. They had cuts on their hands and necks. Razors, candles and their school bags were found next to their bodies, according to police reports.
In addition, neither of the girls, aged 15 and 16, had been reported missing. No arrests had been made thus far.
