Premier Mokonyane officiate R82 Phase 2 sod-turning ceremony

The provision of transport infrastructure is gaining a momentum in Gauteng province as Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and Roads and Transport MEC, Ismail Vadi attended the sod turning event in Kliprivier in the Midvaal Municipality today.

To signal the implementation of this project, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, joined by MEC Vadi, stakeholders, contractors and the community in officiating over the beginning of phase two of the R82 Road, which is due for completion in June 2015.

MEC Vadi says this is the beginning of great opportunities for the people of Midvaal area as the department has invested heavily on road infrastructure over the past couple of years; this project will provide 200 jobs to locals residents, offers subcontracting opportunities to local small business and will impart skills to the locals.

Addressing the audience, Premier Mokonyane highlighted that South Africans should be positive Ambassadors, have a sense of patriotism in governments efforts to improve the lives of our people by building a competitive city that will connect Midvaal and greater Johannesburg.

“This project will contribute to wealth creation for economy, contribute to social cohesion and is part of government’s efforts of celebrating the 20 years success story going forward,” says Mokonyane.

October Transport Month campaign is used to showcase progress achieved in various transport programmes and projects as well as highlight the role played by all stakeholders in creating safe modes of transport and contributions towards socio-economic development.
