For most residents of Gauteng; the year 2010 was a year full of mixed blessings.
We successfully hosted one of the best global showpieces the world has yet to witness. Many visitors promised to return to South Africa and our province, Gauteng, to experience the warmth we are renowned for. We again extend our gratitude to the citizens for welcoming the world.
However, from the euphoria of June 2010; we bore witness to one of the most violent public sectors strikes where the public's right to access services - including essential services - was greatly hindered. Also, the recent heavy rains which destroyed property and saw lives were lost also put a dampener on what was generally a good year.
Next year we will be going to the polls as we elect new local government leaders. I urge you all to register during the voter registration dates, which are still to be announced, so that we strengthen our democracy.
As many of us go on holiday; let us please remember to enjoy ourselves responsibly.
Our law enforcement agencies are out in full force to ensure that we all travel safely on our roads.
Have a restful festive season and return next year with vigour and more zeal as we fast-track the delivery of quality services to our people.
Remember: Don't Drink and Drive or Walk, Don't Look Away and Use Money Wisely.
May God bless you and your families.
