Premier Modise welcomes gangster's sentence

The 15 year jail sentence served on a Khuma youth should serve as a deterrent and sent a message to those involved in gangsterism that crime does not pay, North West Premier Thandi Modise said in welcoming the sentence served on a gangster by the Stilfontein Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

“Only united action by communities will assist police to rid Khuma, Orkney and  Klersksdorp of gangsterism  and criminals that are instilling fear on law abiding  citizens. Without taking the law into their own hands, communities need to strengthen their crime preventions structures as organs of people’s power to reclaim their neighbourhoods and streets from gangsters and drug dealers,” urged Premier Modise.

Police have confirmed that 19 year-old Michael Moleme was arrested on 4 June last year for stabbing Bongani Mfulani, 19, during a fight between two gangs, Alaska and SVK  in Khuma near Stilfontein.

Mfulani was taken to Tshepong Hospital with stab wounds to his back and chest where he died the following day.

High incidents of contact crimes that include murder, armed robberies and sexual offences were recorded in the areas during the past financial year.
