Premier Modise intervenes to restore calm

North West Premier, Thandi Modise, yesterday called for the of Tlokweng community to allow the law enforcement agencies to proceed with their investigations and not take the law into their hands.

The Premier was speaking to hundreds of people during her visit to Tlokweng. She was accompanied by the MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Desbo Mohono and the MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebego. The visit followed the unrest that erupted in the area following the mysterious death of Thabiso Moloi.

As we deal with our collective grief, we must, at the same time, insist that whatever we do must be consistent with the law and our Constitution."

She said that the provincial government has confidence in the ability of our justice system to get to the bottom of the matter. The Premier insisted that learners must be allowed to return to school and workers should go back to work.

Premier Modise urged all the people of Tlokweng to cooperate with the police and other law enforcement agencies to enable them to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice. “If you have information, please give it to the police,” she pleaded with the community.

Premier Modise assured the community that the complaints and allegations they raised against the local police would be investigated. A committee comprising of six community members was elected to work with the police to address community concerns and to ensure that the situation is normalised.
