Premier Modise calls for partnership to empower girl children and women

North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise has called on women groups, organisations and the business sector to work with government to empower the unprivileged girls and other women through education, employment, environmental awareness and business development.

In her speech delivered at the Provincial event to celebrate International Women’s Day held in Mmabatho on Friday, Premier Modise said that women’s full and equal participation in the political and economic arena is fundamental to democracy and justice because equal rights and opportunity underpin healthy economies and societies.

The Premier said that as the world celebrates International Women’s Day throughout March, it is important to remember that the task of transforming our country fully and reversing the legacy of apartheid cannot be undertaken by government alone. She said that this task is the responsibility of all South Africans black and white, rich and poor.

Premier Modise said that government salutes all people, all the unsung heroines and heroes who dedicate their everyday life to doing something for the advancement of our country.

She said that government is aware of initiatives undertaken by civil society and the private sector to help improve the condition of the girl child in the country and province.

“We thank and salute women’s groups, churches, faith-based organisations and non-government organisations that have awoken to embrace our partnership,” said the Premier in expressing gratitude.

In paying homage to girl children as mothers of tomorrow, Premier Modise reminded the over one thousand women who attended the event held under the theme “Connecting women, Inspiring futures” as part of the programme to celebrate economic, political and social achievements of women of the saying that No child has No mother.

“By protecting and promoting girl children, we are grooming future mothers for our nation. We are grooming mothers for children of tomorrow. We are grooming a better future for our country. We are directly creating a better life for our people,” she stressed
