Premier Maureen Modiselle calls on municipalities to service debts

North West Premier, Maureen Modiselle has called on municipalities in the province to immediately pay Eskom and three water supply boards, namely Rand Water, Botshelo Water and Sedibeng Water as a matter of urgency.

Premier Modiselle made this appeal when she recently met the three boards and Eskom with the intention to alleviate the water shortage problems in the North West province, especially in the Ramotshere Moiloa local municipality.

She further wanted Eskom, Rand Water, Sedibeng Water and Botshelo Water to indicate how they will be able to help alleviate these problems in rural areas particularly. All three water supply boards and Eskom have therefore indicated that municipalities in the province are not paying for the water they are being supplied with and then charge communities more and this at times lead to water shortages.

Premier Modiselle called on municipalities to pay Eskom and the water boards expeditiously and all other service providers that they owe. It is Premier Modiselle’s wish that they settle all outstanding debts with service providers who are at the core of basic service delivery.
