Premier Makhura honours the late Benjamin Mophatlane

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, today joined the rest of South Africa in remembering and paying their respects to the late business trailblazer, Leetile Benjamin Mophatlane.

Mophatlane, who passed away more than a week ago at the tender age of 41 following a cardiac arrest, was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JSE-listed Information and Communication Technology ICT) firm, Business Connexion.

The company, which started out as an SMME, rose to become the second biggest ICT company in the country with more than 7 000 employees. The company also had a global footprint with operations in Africa (Kenya and Nigeria) as well as the United Kingdom.

Premier Makhura said Gauteng, and indeed the entire South Africa, had lost an energetic entrepreneur who had risen against all odds.

"What is even sadder is that we lost this young business trailblazer during the month where we are celebrating young people and their contribution to a better South Africa - Youth Month. Our young people have lost someone they could look up to; they have lost a leader in the mould of the late Tsietsi Mashinini - a student leader who in the dark hour of the 70s said to the apartheid regime: We will not allow you to define who we are; neither our success. Benjamin Mophatlane was certainly a beacon for many in our country and he will forever be missed. May his soul rest in peace," Makhura said.
