Premier Kiviet gets R1 million donation from ABSA

Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet has today received R1 million donation from ABSA bank to use it in the eradication of mud schools in the province. The donation by ABSA was announced at a media briefing by Premier Kiviet during the ABSA Premiers Invitational Golf Day held at Fish River Sun.

Said Premier Kiviet, “Our meeting this morning with ABSA resulted in a donation of R1 million by ABSA to eradicate mud-structured schools in our Province. I used my bargaining skills to secure the donation. We want to ensure that we invest in the future of our children. If we do not invest in our children the nation has not future. We pledge our commitment to work with ABSA and other businesses to improve the quality of life of the people of this province. We also encourage other businesses to follow ABSA’s example.

Premier Kiviet urged business to conduct golf coaching clinics for previously disadvantaged learners. “Only very few people play golf. It teaches you to focus. We need to involve kids in rural areas. I encourage business to help find these hidden talents in our communities. I have no doubt that we have lots of Tiger Woods and Ritief Goosens out there,” said Premier Kiviet.

Premier Kiviet also announced today that R250 000 had been sponsored by ABSA to her and she has chosen Ngangolwandle Senior Secondary Schools in Elliotdale as a beneficiary of the donation. She said a computer and a science lab will be built at the school and this facility will assist learners and teachers from neighbouring schools.

Chief of staff to ABSA Executive Director Ms Angie Burton said at ABSA they strive to give back to the communities in which they operate.

It gives us great pleasure to partner with government to ensure that the people of the province benefit. We are glad that Premier Kiviet has chosen a school to benefit from the donation because science and maths is very close to ABSA’s heart.
