Premier Kiviet calls for honesty

Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet has urged the people of the Eastern Cape to provide accurate, truthful and honest information to Stats SA officials who are conducting the census count of 2011. Kiviet was addressing journalists at her Bhisho State House Office minutes after concluding her count with census enumerator this morning.

“This process will definitely assist government if we can all give the officials honest information. It’s a detailed questioner and surely it will provide government with adequate data to do planning for the future of our country. Our people should participate fully in this process,” said Kiviet.

Census 2011 Ambassador Makhaya Ntini was present at the time of Premier Kiviet’s count.

Stats SA Executive Manager for the Eastern Cape Mr Zandisile Nkosiyane said all plans are in place to ensure a successful count for 2011. He said ever precaution has been made to ensure that criminal elements do not use the census count to rob households. “Our officials are identifiable by a yellow uniform, yellow cap, a beep with Stats SA Census written on it and an identity card. More over this year we have hired people to do the count in the areas they live in. So they will not be strangers in their communities,” said Nkoyisane.

Kiviet pledged with the people of the province to open their homes to census officials and cooperate with them. “They are not doing this for themselves but for the good of the country. Let us all welcome them to our homes and be patient with them,” concluded Kiviet.
