Premier Mokgoro joins South Africans in mourning death of Molewa
Premier Job Mokgoro of the North West Province has received with shock and sadness news on the death of Minister Edna Molewa, the North West Province’s former and first female Premier and current Minister for department of Environmental Affairs.
Molewa who was reported dead today, served in the Province’s Executive Council as MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment after 1994, before being elected as the ruling party’s Provincial Chairperson and Premier of the province from 2004 till 2009. She was later appointed as the Minister of Social Development and has served in various portfolios including as Minister for Environmental Affairs.
“This is truly a shock, and definitely a loss to our province and the country. We were still expecting a lot from her as someone who has continued to play a leading role in promoting environmental conservation as key to South Africa’s economic development.
“In expressing our deepest condolences to the Molewa family, her friends and colleagues in cabinet and the department, we wish for them to find solace in knowing that as a democratic woman leader of note, she has done her part in positioning South Africa in the world map in so far as the agenda on environmental conservation is concerned, and that we must take from her, qualities that which will take the North West Province and South Africa forward. May her soul rest in eternal peace”, Premier Mokgoro remarked.
